Fall Events Kick Off a Busy Season

The first day of fall was officially September 24. But, last weekend’s cool weather?signals us that it is actually fall. The night time lows were?in the 60s and daytime highs in the low 80s. ?It was a beautiful weekend.

My daughter had friends from PA visiting, who asked “How do you know when fall is here?” Her Florida answer was, “when we can buy pumpkin lattes at Starbucks.”? Indeed pumpkin everything is?available now.

But, another way to tell fall is here is that the annual fall events start happening. Sebring Thunder car show?on September 19-21?was the last real summer event. Here are a few events coming very soon?:

  • Oct 10- Monthly Wine Walk downtown Sebring – Ghoul’s Night Out – Girls come dressed in your favorite costume and enjoy wine at the various merchants downtown. Perhaps a good time to get a head start on Christmas.
  • Oct 11 – Pink Army Strut, sponsored by Florida Hospital. This downtown event?combines a?walk from the?downtown Circle, down Center St to the?Highlands Little Theater and Highlands?Art?Museum ?to do some fun events, mocktails at each stop?and back to the Circle for?”best pink costume” contest, ?music and fun. Proceeds from the event will go to the?Heartland Mammography?Fund, so that no woman is left in need of funds for this crucial point in battling breast cancer. Registration is $20, which includes a swag bag for the first 500 registered. Join the Pink Army. To register?
  • Oct 11 – Monthly Saturday Car Cruise downtown – in conjunction with Pink Army Strut
  • Oct 18 & Oct 24 * Oct 31?- Terror Trail by Highlands County Humane Society – first opportunity for kids to wear their costumes, plus held on subsequent weekends. Have fun and?benefit the humane society. Details 863-214-6508
  • Oct 18- Music in the Park at Highlands Hammock State Part – Back Porch Revival – Bring a lawn chair and blanket $5 pp for ages 13 & up. 12 & under Free. Proceeds?benefit park?improvements by Friends of Highlands Hammock.
  • Oct 30 – Downtown Sebring Circle “Thriller Dance Party” for all ages, 5-8. Music, costumes, candy and more.
  • Nov 1 – 48th Annual Fine Arts Festival in downtown Sebring. A juried event, with? a lot of quality artists. This would also be a great day to see the Ringling Art Museum exhibit on display at the Highlands Museum of the Arts until Nov 22. MOTA is by Lake Jackson at the end of Center St. The Arts Fest and Ringling exhibit are worth a weekend trip if you?don’t live in Highlands County!
  • Nov 8 – Crazy? Pepper Chili Cook Off – this annual event is a chili tasting event. $5 per person and you get a few tickets to “vote” with. Go to each booth, try their chili and put the tickets (vote)?for? your favorite chili. Chili cooking starts at 9 am/ tasting opens to attendees a noon – great lunch.   • Dec 8 – Sebring Christmas Parade – Theme this year is “Patriotic Christmas.” Produced by the Heartland Young Professionals group.
