Sebring International Raceway

Because of its central location in the county, it is home to the most shopping, restaurants, medical facilities and hotels. ?It is host to the local Highlands Little Theater, movie theaters, Highlands Hammock State Park, Sebring Airport and world famous Sebring International Raceway.
Sebring has two main business areas. The original Downtown Circle features art galleries, boutique shopping, restaurants and monthly events. ?The Highway 27 corridor is home to major shopping corporations like Belk’s, Sears, Penney, Marshall’s, Ross, Rack Room, Bed Bath & Beyond and Michael’s. Major restaurants include Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday’s and Panera Bread. There is also a Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts for the coffee lovers.
Sebring is also the county seat of Highlands County. This is where you will find the Courthouse and County Government Building (get your auto tag and driver’s license changed/ file for homestead exemption on your new home).
Lake Placid is favored for its fabulous waterfront properties and hometown friendliness.
Caladium Fest Lake Placid FL

Lake Placid, voted “America’s Most Interesting Town” in 2013, is on the south end of Highlands County, less than 15 miles from Sebring. It is a beautiful, laid back community with rolling hills and beautiful lakefront homes and views. The town is known for its Caladium fields, 34+ murals (self guided tour booklets available at the Caladium Co-op), clown college, festivals and lakes.
The Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce is active in promoting many special events. Henscratch Farms, an award winning winery and country farm hosts several events throughout the year, the largest is the annual Grape Stomp Festival. The largest Lake Placid event is the annual Caladium Festival which draws between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees.
Lake Placid is just over 2 hours from Miami, which makes it a popular vacation destination from the city. Lakefront and canal front homes offer a relaxing break making them popular vacation options for urban residents and sought after properties for retirees.
Avon Park
South Florida State College – home of the Cultural Arts Series
Greeting Northern travelers to Highlands County, Avon Park is a relaxed Florida town, that embodies Florida traditions. The oldest city in our county, Avon Park’s Chamber of Commerce was established in 1904. One of the early notes is that Babe Ruth played baseball here and stayed in the historic Hotel Jacaranda. A drive down the “mile long mall,” (it’s not a shopping mall) will take you through the center of downtown by the Hotel Jacaranda (home of the Culinary division of South Florida State College; across the street is the excellent 18 East Main Restaurant also in a restored historic building.
South Florida State College offers a Cultural Arts Series each year that features both national and international performing arts groups. Shows offer a variety from single artists to international symphonies. Check out their website for more info.
Residents and visitors enjoy canoeing down Arbuckle Creek, fishing on one of the may lakes, golfing at River Greens or PineCrest golf courses.
