Summer Fun Roundup

Summer is upon us and it is the?quieter time of year in Highlands County. The snowbirds have gone?North and the locals are ready to play.??It is a great time to take advantage of all the?unique events?of the “off season.”

  • May 17th -Brings us the Henscratch Farms Blueberry Festival , complete with?all kinds of blueberry goodies,?wine and music by the Fiddle Pickin Band. (Don’t forget to confirm the dates of the August Grape Stomp Fest at Henscratch too.)
  • May 17th -?Enjoy Music in the Park at Highlands Hammock State Park?. The band Quasimodo will finish out the spring music?series with?70s & 80s rock music. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and a picnic for a fun evening. Cost $5 benefits park improvements
  • Ongoing through May 31 – Heartland Museum of the Arts – Citrus exhibits.
  • June 14 & 15th – Heartland Triathlon is back again for its 9th year!? Over 600 people will participate in this year’s event. The event is held in downtown Sebring and Lake Jackson. Register early (no walk-ins accepted).?Cheering fans welcome! ?There are two regional championship triathlon events for kids on Saturday for ages 6-10 and ages 11-15. Sunday’s event is adults only (must be 13 or over) with a choice of Sprint distance or Olympic distance entries.
  • Coming in July 24th annual Caladium Fest?, Flip Flop Festival, Summer of Love Volkswagen Jubilee, monthly Sebring Cruise car cruise, and more
  • Save the Date,? Sept 19-21 (or better yet register early if you have a classic or specialty car)?for Sebring Thunder V car show – this year featuring the Mustang 50 Challenge – where we hope to register a car from each of Mustang’s 50 years and the Corvette Counter Challenge – where the Corvette owners? are challenged to also represent 50 (or more) years.

There’s no need to be bored in the summer time. There’s plenty of fun events happening – and I didn’t even get to the water sports, lakes and the 44+ public boat ramps in the county. Maybe next time I can blog about that. Have a great week!
